Trip Considerations:
Climate: Be prepared for varied conditions – the first day in the higher altitudes will be very cold, transitioning to warm to very hot with approximately 90% humidity in the lowlands. A rain poncho is highly recommended for unexpected tropical showers.
Difficulty: While mostly very easy, the heat and humidity can be tiring, so ensure you stay hydrated.
Accommodation: Enjoy good quality accommodations in charming jungle lodges. All rooms feature private bathrooms, some offer hot showers, and electricity is available. Expect comfortable, basic facilities in double bed rooms.

Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: Cusco to Manu Cloud Forest & Pilcopata Lodge – Gateway to the Amazon
- Morning Departure from Cusco: Begin your Manu adventure with an early departure from Cusco (3,300 m.a.s.l.) in a comfortable vehicle.
- Andean Landscapes & Pre-Inca History: Traverse picturesque Andean valleys, stopping to explore the ancient Ninamarca chullpas(pre-Inca burial towers of the Lupaca culture).
- Colonial Charm of Paucartambo: Enjoy breakfast in the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, a significant cultural stop before entering the jungle.
- Acjanaco Pass & Cloud Forest Immersion: Ascend to the Acjanaco National Park entrance, the gateway to Manu. Descend into the breathtaking Manu Cloud Forest (1,700 m.a.s.l.), a hotspot for endemic species.
- Wildlife Spotting & Birdwatching: Lunch amidst the cloud forest, renowned for sightings of the elusive Spectacled Bear and the iconic Cock of the Rock (Peru’s national bird) performing its vibrant courtship ritual. Observe orchids, bromeliads, and diverse flora.
- Arrival at Pilcopata Lodge: Continue your scenic journey to our comfortable Pilcopata Lodge (600 m.a.s.l.) for your first night, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
DAY 2: Pilcopata Lodge to Manu Lodge & Machuwasi Lake – River & Rainforest Exploration
- Jungle Walk & Optional Experiences: After an early breakfast, embark on an invigorating jungle walk to spot monkeys and a variety of birds. Optionally, visit a local coca plantation or a wildlife rescue center.
- Boat Journey on the Alto Madre de Dios River: Travel to Puerto Atalaya (500 m.a.s.l.) and begin your scenic motorized boat descent down the Alto Madre de Dios River. Enjoy unparalleled birdwatching opportunities, observing herons, vultures, and cormorants.
- Arrival at Manu Lodge: Reach our riverside Manu Lodge, where you can relax, swim in the river, and enjoy a delicious lunch.
- Machuwasi Lake Rafting & Capybara Spotting: In the afternoon, explore the tranquil Machuwasi Lake by raft. Look for the unique prehistoric bird, the Hoatzin, and with luck, encounter capybaras and various monkey species.
- Overnight at Manu Lodge: Return to the lodge for dinner and a restful night's sleep amidst the sounds of the rainforest.
DAY 3: Manu Lodge, Parrot Clay Lick & Zipline Adventure – Wildlife & Adrenaline
- Macaw Clay Lick Spectacle: Embark on an early morning boat trip (40 mins) to a vibrant parrot and macaw clay lick. Witness hundreds of colorful parrots, including blue-headed parrots, white-eyed parakeets, and chestnut-fronted macaws, gather to consume mineral-rich clay essential for their digestion.
- Breakfast & Forest Hike: Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Afterward, embark on a 2-3 hour guided hike through the dense rainforest, discovering diverse flora and fauna with your expert naturalist guide.
- Optional Zipline Adventure (Canopy Zipline): After lunch and relaxation, seize the opportunity for an exhilarating Amazon zipline experience! Fly through the jungle canopy, enjoying a unique bird's-eye view of the rainforest, then rappel 20 meters to the forest floor. All equipment is high-quality and safe.
- Nocturnal Jungle Walk: As dusk settles, embark on a thrilling night walk through the forest, searching for nocturnal insects, amphibians, and other elusive creatures.
- Dinner & Overnight at Manu Lodge: Conclude your day with dinner and another night at the comfortable Manu Lodge.
DAY 4: Manu Lodge to Atalaya & Return to Cusco – Farewell to the Amazon
- Hummingbird Sanctuary & Departure: Enjoy a final delicious breakfast at the lodge, observing the vibrant hummingbirds that frequent the surroundings.
- Boat Journey to Puerto Atalaya: Board your boat for a picturesque 40-minute journey back upriver to Puerto Atalaya.
- Scenic Drive to Cusco: Our private bus will be waiting to transport you back to Cusco. Enjoy lunch en route through the beautiful cloud forest, reflecting on your incredible Manu jungle expedition.
- Arrival in Cusco: Arrive back in Cusco between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, filled with memories of your extraordinary Peruvian Amazon adventure.
